We are Technologists

Intent:
At our school, we want our children to feel confident, creative and safe when using technology. Computing is about much more than screens – it’s about thinking logically, solving problems, making things, and understanding the digital world they’re growing up in. We want every child to learn how technology works, how it can be used to communicate and create, and how to stay safe and responsible online. Most importantly, we want them to feel empowered – to know they can be creators, not just users, of technology.

Implementation:
Computing starts in the Early Years with simple, hands-on exploration – following instructions, using technology in role play, and developing the early thinking skills that lead into coding and control. As children move through school, our curriculum is built around three key strands: computer science (like programming and algorithms), information technology (such as creating digital content), and digital literacy (including online safety). Learning is practical and purposeful, using age-appropriate tools and software. Wherever possible, computing is linked to other subjects, helping children to see its relevance and apply their skills in real-life contexts. Online safety is taught regularly and embedded in everything we do.

Impact:
By the time they leave us, our children can use technology thoughtfully and safely. They can write simple code, solve problems, create digital content, and choose the right tools for different tasks. They understand how to behave responsibly online and know how to ask for help if something worries them. We see children take pride in their work – from designing a game to making a presentation – and growing in confidence with each new challenge. Computing at our school helps children become logical thinkers, creative learners, and respectful digital citizens in a fast-changing world.
