We are Citizens
Intent:
At Clapham & Patching, we want our children to grow up feeling safe, respected, and confident in who they are. Through RSE and PSHE, we aim to help children understand their emotions, build positive relationships, and make healthy, responsible choices. We want them to learn about themselves and others with kindness and respect, developing the skills to navigate the world around them with empathy and resilience. Our goal is to support every child’s wellbeing and personal growth so they can thrive both now and in the future.
Implementation:
RSE and PSHE begin in the Early Years with simple lessons about feelings, friendship, and caring for others, delivered through stories, play and discussion. As children move through school, our curriculum carefully builds knowledge and skills in areas like emotional wellbeing, personal safety, healthy lifestyles, diversity and respect, and financial awareness. Lessons are age-appropriate, honest, and inclusive, encouraging open conversation in a safe, supportive environment. We work closely with families and the wider community to ensure our approach reflects our values and meets children’s needs.
Impact:
By the time they leave us, our children understand how to look after themselves and others – emotionally, physically and socially. They are able to build positive relationships, make thoughtful decisions, and cope with challenges with resilience and confidence. We see children who listen carefully, respect differences, and show kindness and empathy in their actions. Most importantly, they feel prepared for the next steps in their lives, equipped with the knowledge and values to make healthy, respectful choices now and in the future.
