RE
Intent:
At our school, we want our children to explore big questions about life, meaning, and belief in a respectful and open way. RE helps children learn about different faiths, cultures, and world-views, encouraging curiosity, understanding, and empathy. We aim to nurture a sense of respect for diversity and to help children reflect on their own ideas and values. Through RE, we want our children to develop a deeper appreciation of the world around them and the different ways people find meaning and purpose.
Implementation:
RE starts in the Early Years by exploring stories, celebrations, and beliefs that help children understand themselves and others. As children progress through school, our curriculum introduces a range of religions and beliefs in an age-appropriate and sensitive way. We use stories, discussions, visits, and artefacts to bring learning to life, encouraging children to ask questions and share their thoughts. The focus is on learning about religions and from religions – helping children to develop both knowledge and personal reflection.
Impact:
By the end of KS2, our children have a broad understanding of different beliefs and cultures and can talk thoughtfully about ideas of faith and values. They show respect for diversity and are able to express their own views with confidence and sensitivity. We see children who are open-minded, thoughtful, and curious – ready to engage positively with the wider world and the rich variety of beliefs within it. RE at our school helps children to grow in understanding, respect, and self-awareness.
We have recently created a bespoke new curriculum for our school to inspire children's curiosity and build and revisit key skills and knowledge each year.
As a Church School we approach all that we do through our Christian vision and values which are rooted in theology and embedded throughout our curriculum.
Please see the documents below for our school's long-term RE curriculum planning.
