We are Active
Intent:
At our school, we want all our children to enjoy being active, to feel confident in their own bodies, and to understand how movement helps keep them healthy and happy. From their very first experiences in PE, we aim to build not only physical skills like coordination and balance, but also personal qualities like teamwork, resilience, and self-belief. We want every child – whatever their starting point – to find joy in movement, to try new things, and to leave primary school with a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity.
Implementation:
PE starts in the Early Years with lots of fun, play-based movement – running, climbing, dancing, throwing and catching – helping children to develop control, strength and confidence. As they move through school, they build on these foundations with a broad curriculum that includes games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, swimming and outdoor activities. Our lessons are supported by professional sports coaches and are inclusive, active and varied – designed to give every child a chance to shine. We also make space for competition and celebration, through sports days, friendly matches, festivals and clubs, helping children to develop teamwork and sportsmanship in a supportive environment.
Impact:
By the end of KS2, our children are active, capable and enthusiastic participants in physical activity. They know how to challenge themselves, how to work with others, and how to look after their bodies. We see children grow in confidence – not just on the pitch or in the hall, but in themselves. They enjoy taking part, trying their best, and celebrating each other’s achievements. Most importantly, they leave us with happy memories of PE and a strong foundation for a healthy, active life.
