    Governors

    GOVERNORS’ PRAYER

    God our Father,

We seek your blessing and support in all the responsibilities we bear as Governors of this school.

May we reach our decisions prompted by a desire to serve.

May your Spirit grant us wisdom and understanding.

Keep the children and staff and all associated with our school under your watchful eye, so that the purpose of our school may flourish for the good of all at all times.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord, Amen

Jo MacGovern - Chair of Governors (Safeguarding and Attendance)

I have lived locally in Angmering for 19 years. As a family we are involved in many activities in the local community. Our eldest is about to embark on university life and the youngest sixth form.

My career to date of 28 years has been centred around education. Roles have included: Class teacher, Head of year, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher and Local Authority Consultant.

I currently work for the charity Teach First supporting trainee teachers in school and delivering on their pedagogical learning.

Outside of work and the Governor role I am Secretary and Welfare Officer at Angmering on Sea LTC where most of my family play tennis.

    Justine Chubb - Headteacher

I have been teaching for over 30 years and continue to feel inspired by the joy of learning and the connections I build within our school community. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and two little dogs, reading, drawing, painting and making the most of sunny days. I admire the work of poet Maya Angelou, whose words remind us to “be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud,” and I strive to bring that same spirit of kindness and encouragement to my teaching. What I value most about our school is its warm, close-knit environment; being part of a small community allows us to care for one another while embracing opportunities to take our learning beyond the classroom.

    Nick Mainwaring - Staff Governor

I joined Clapham and Patching C of E primary school in September 2023 teaching years 3 and 4.  Prior to teaching, I enjoyed a career in IT focussing on project management, innovation, leadership and developing talent.  I have worked as a STEM ambassador encouraging children to engage with and love STEM subjects. I now teach Year 5 and 6 and also lead mathematics across the school.

    Georgina Bond - Parent Governor

I was born in the Parish of Findon, Clapham and Patching and moved back here 10 years ago to raise my family. Both of my children have been pupils at Clapham & Patching and now attend Worthing High, also part of the South Downs Education Trust. For me, Clapham & Patching school is vital to the local community, and I truly believe in the saying “it takes a village to raise a child.”

Alongside my role as a governor, I serve as a trustee on the local Parochial Church Council, which deepens my focus on the connection between the church and the community. Professionally, I have over 20 years’ experience across corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors, and now run my own consultancy, supporting business owners and community leaders. My particular interests are in wellbeing, communication and creating environments where people can thrive, and I am passionate about helping the school continue to provide a nurturing and ambitious environment where every child can flourish.

Rev. Helena Buque - Foundation Governor

I trained as a Primary School teacher and was then appointed as a SENCO. I then trained as a vicar and was offered the post of vicar of Findon, Clapham and Patching. In my role as school governor it is a joy to see how each pupil is nurtured and encouraged within the school, witnessing how confident they are in themselves as we send them on their way to Secondary School.

Louise Salewski - Standards and effectiveness, Health and Safety

    Awaiting Photo

I am recently retired, having spent many years in education as a head of three  schools in London, a mentor for new heads and supporting schools in difficulty.  I am interested in children being inspired to learn in an inclusive and nurturing environment. I believe forest schools and growing food have important life long health benefits for children.

I have two children, one grandchild and another on the way. I can often be found in my garden or running along the seafront.

I am delighted in being part the governing body of Clapham and Patching CofE Primary School.

    Bebba Smithers

I am Bebba Smithers.  I have lived next to the village school for almost 30 years and am delighted to be one of the School Governors. I have just retired after 31 years working in the NHS acute sector across five large hospitals, as a Senior Strategic Medical Education Business Manager.  A role I found incredibly rewarding.  I have a strong financial background, strategy development and staff management.  I also have a keen interest in Mental Health and Wellbeing and I run courses in Mental Health.  I have a MSc and a PG Cert.

    Dr Neil Ambrose

After completing a first degree in Medical Biochemistry and a PhD in Biomedical Science and Ethics at the University of Birmingham, I moved into web development and have run my own technology and events company for the past 18 years.

I am delighted to be asked to become a member of the governing body at Clapham and Patching CofE Primary School because I passionately believe that providing children with high-quality education is one of the best ways to improve their life opportunities and ensure success in adulthood.
